Science Fair doesn’t have to be painful!
Kids and Families can create a great Science Fair Project using my tips below.
Science Fair Ideas and Hints
- My very best hint is to be original! If you go straight to the internet and pick a project…well thousands of other families have done the same thing. Science Fair Judges tend to be a small pool in a community. If the project is copied directly off the internet they have seen it many times already. Judges love originality!!
- This doesn’t mean you can’t get ideas from the internet. Sites like: Sciencebuddies.org have a lot of ideas. You can look over these ideas with your child and pick something for the science fair together that interests your child. Keep in mind judges like to interview the students about their projects. If your child has no interest in the topic he or she will not be able to discuss the project.
- After you pick an idea…now you need to flip it or change it. You can add something to it, tweak or change an element in the project. Judges look for novelty. Even if the project is not being judged your child should be proud of their project and enjoy conducting the experiment. After all it is their project!!
- Project variables must be tested 3 times. For younger children up through 5th grade only one variable should be changed. If you need to learn about variables check out Jan Cleave’s examples.
- More ideas to come!
